Kathina robe-Offering Ceremony in the nave of Khmer Pagoda, Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture & Tourism

(LVH) - This morning, on October 19, 2014 (Buddhist calendar in 2558), Kathina robe-offering Ceremony, one of the great and most important ceremonies of Theravada Buddhism was solemnly held in the Nave of Khmer Pagoda, Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture & Tourism (Dong Mo, Son Tay, Hanoi) with full rites of Theravada Buddhism. After nearly a year of inauguration, the Nave of Khmer pagoda has become one of places to handle Buddhist affairs of the Buddhist Sangha of Vietnam in a “common house”, and after three months of varsa, monks have had full lucks and charms to receive Kathina robe, showing kindness of Buddhists for helping the all the monks and sustainability, tightness and perfect.

Attending the ceremony program includes leaders representing Departments, Central and Hanoi Government Ministries; representatives of the Buddhist Sangha of Vietnam, along with all monks of Demonstration Council, the Management Council, Central Departments and Sectors, Hospital, Management Board of Buddhist Sangha of Vietnam in Ha Noi, HCM City, An Giang, Bac Lieu, Can Tho, Vinh Long, Soc Trang, Tra Vinh; Theravada and Mahayana monks; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the countries: Cambodia, Bangladesh, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Sri Lanka; Leaders and Staffs of the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture & Tourism; journalists, media, etc.

 

Superior Buddhist monk Thạch Sok Xane, Vice-Chairman of Management Council of the Buddhist Sangha of Vietnam said in the Ceremony

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Superior Buddhist monk Thach Sok Xane, vice chairman of the Management Council of the Buddhist Sangha of Vietnam raised the history and meaning of Buddhism for the spiritual life of Vietnamese, emphasizing the attention and creating favorable conditions in the policies of the Party and the State for Buddhism in general, and the Khmer Theravada Buddhist and Khmer community in particular. He confirmed that: With the motto “Dharma - Ethnics – Socialism”, Khmer Theravada Buddhist have been together with the country in the innovation, development and integration in the era of globalization and has been operating effectively, contributing positively to the overall achievement of the Buddhist Sangha of Vietnam.
In addition, the monks also recorded the position, role and significance of the presence of the Khmer pagoda, Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture & Tourism and confirmed: “... on November 23, 2013, an event made some generations of Khmer Buddhists be enthusiastic is to inaugurate Khmer pagoda in the centre of Hanoi, this pagoda is just like any other Khmer pagodas, preserving and promoting the cultural identity of Khmer ethnic group, which passed and tempered the patriotism, foreign invaders of his father, as well as trained and practiced the Truth - Compassion – Beauty for people and beyond Khmer pagoda is also the center of unity among ethnic groups in Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture & Tourism”.

 

Comrade Bui Thanh Ha, Deputy Head of Standing Committee – Religious Committee said

Speaking at the “the robe-offering ceremony is an important rituals of Khmer Theravada Buddhism ... and time first in Hanoi - thousand years of civilization, the robe-offering ritual of Khmer Theravada Buddhist has been formally and fully held by monks and devotees of Khmer Theravada Buddhist, in the Theravada pagoda with colorful Khmer space built in the capital, Hanoi”. He expressed his belief “The Buddhist Sangha of Vietnam will contribute to the Management Board of Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture & Tourism introduced to the public throughout the country and international friends of the diversity of the religious life of the people of Vietnam, and to promote the image of the country and people of Vietnam and Buddhist always be friendly, peace-loving, so that Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture & Tourism has become a interesting and meaniful destination for each visitor both at home and abroad ".

Prior to the spiritual ritual is the greeting rite at the Nave and a moment of silence to commemorate ancestors achieving a feat with religion - ethnic - socialism, the word martyr, President Ho Chi Minh and his spiritual heroes who have sacrificed for the country.
As for the spiritual ceremony, the Kathina-robe offering ceremony was held from the evening of October 18, 2014 in the Nave at Khmer pagoda with the rituals: Three Refuges Ceremony, Ceremony Security Buddha, Preach in the Nave and following, the next morning (October 19, 2014) with the ritual: Parading Buddhist 3 rounds in the Nave, offering flowers and three refuges prayers, Tho Tri, Three Regues, Five Precepts, Practice Monks Affairs, Peace Pray, binding the thread to Buddhists’ wrists... the rites of ceremony in turns are performed by the delegates, monks, Buddhist with a respectful heart, dignified joy and rejoicing.

The Kathina robe-offering ceremony is a priceless heritage of Buddhism, partly contributing to the cause of helping and spreading the Dharma, the Buddha gives the endless joys, the unmovable trust estate with the boundless blessings ...
