Requiem and Prayer for peace at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism

(LVH) - On the occasion of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day, this morning, on July 27, 2014, at Khmer Pagoda Prayer Hall, the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism (Dong Mo, Son Tay, Hanoi), Requiem and prayer for peace for the heroic martyrs were held to express reverence and deep gratitude to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the country. This activity was also to promote the traditional values and honor “When you eat a fruit, think of the man who planted the tree” moral code at “common house” of the Vietnamese ethnic groups. Mr. Ho Anh Tuan, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Head of Management Board of the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism attended the ceremony.

Requiem and prayer for peace was chaired by Khmer Pagoda mastermonk, some Khmer monks are Theravada Buddhists, Phap Van Pagoda mastermonks and Mahayana Buddhists and Buddhists joined the requiem and prayer for peace for the heroic martyrs who died for the country. In particular, Requiem and prayer for peace for 18 martyrs who died on duty in Hoa Lac airport on July 07th, 2014. (On July 07th, 2014, Mi-171 helicopter bearing number 01 of the Air Force helicopter regiment 916, 371 Airborne Division troops while aircraft parachute training fell at village 11, Thanh Hoa Commune, Thach That District, Hanoi due to fired motors. The accident caused 18 fellow soldiers died and three were seriously injured).

The ceremony was attended by martyrs’ relatives, such as families of martyr Hoang Dai Long, Le Thanh Viet, Do Manh Uy, Nguyen Van Thanh, etc.
In solemn and sacred Buddhism air, the rituals were held in accordance with Buddhism rites. With infinite pity for martyrs and sincere heart, gratitude to the heroic martyrs, monks and Buddhists carried out the rituals: Tam Bao worshiping, Tho Tri, fruit offerings, chanting for peace, praying for the deceased and wishing for blessing and reincarnating thanks to the merits of praying to Buddha, ceremony for releasing captured animals, boat dropping ceremony, worshiping for living beings.
According to the doctrine of the Buddha, Tan Bao worshipping is praising three Tam Bao kingships. With boundless reverence, great wisdom of the Buddha, Buddhists express respected through worshiping rituals and following the example of Buddha and consecrated monks to develop good behavior, the Buddhism faith promotion at the same time expressing gratitude to and following the noble virtues and salvation determination of the revereds.

It was followed by Tho Tri rituals- which is to receive prayer books from Buddha and keep them in mind and work

Tho Tri rituals and fruit offerings were followed by chanting ceremony for peace, blessing and fulfillment; praying for salvation of the souls. Monks and Buddhists prayed with all sincerity, faith and the deceased’s salvation; Buddhism master’s approval on salvated souls, higher ranking of souls at high rank and lighter corona; departure of the life and reach of serene and pure land of souls sinking into crime.
Next was animal releasing ceremony, boat dropping ceremony, which is to express mercifulness for all people, no attention for own benefits but enormous blessing.
Finally, worshiping for living beings was held to pray for salvation of helpless souls, peace for everybody.

Requiem and Prayer for peace held at the “Village” is a vivid evidence of the activity diversification of the spiritual works at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism. These activities did not only contribute to conserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of Vietnamese but also played an important role in strengthening the unique value introduction in Vietnamese beliefs to delegates, people, domestic and international tourists and therby contributing to conservation and honor of traditional cultural heritages Vietnamese people.
