“Khao Le The” Ceremony of Spratly Islands soldiers was held in the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism

(LVH) - On the morning of June 29, 2014, “Khao Le The” Ceremony of Spratly Islands soldiers of fishermen in Ly Son District (Quang Ngai) was held in the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism. This is the first time that “Khao Le The” Ceremony of Spratly Islands soldiers was held at the “common house” of the Vietnamese ethnic groups and is an opportunity for the Vietnamese ethnic groups to show gratitude to heroic Spratly Islands soldiers who donated their life for building, preserving, protecting the sacred sovereign of sea and islands, continental shelf of the fatherland.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Ho Anh Tuan, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Hoang Duc Hau, Head of Ethnic Cultural Department (MOCST); Mr. Nguyen Dinh Loi, Mr. Nguyen Huu Thinh, Mr. Lam Van Khang, Deputy Head of Management Board of the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism; Mr. Pham Hoang Linh, Deputy Chairman of Ly Son People’s Committee- Quang Ngai Province along with the leaders of the General Department, departments and units under MOCST, Heads of the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the provinces and cities: Son La, Ha Giang, Quang Tri, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Ninh Thuan, Dak Lak, An Giang, ethnic minorities, journalists, journalism and media agencies, media, people and visistors.

 

Mr. Lam Van Khang, Deputy Head of Management Board of the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, Head of Organization Board of “The Great family of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups with the national construction and defense” program gave a speech at the ceremony

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Lam Van Khang, Deputy Head of Management Board of the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, Head of Organization Board said: “The reproduction of the traditional festivals of ethnic groups in the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, the “common house” of 54 ethnic groups successfully held in last years with the enthusiastic response and the effective collaboration of localities and directly expressed by cultural subjects. This is really a practical activity, contributing to preserving, conserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of Vietnamese ethnic groups; continued to affirm the right policy of the Party and State under the Great ethnic solidarity” and “Khao Le The” Ceremony of Spratly Islands soldiers was a unique festival of fishermen in Quang Ngai province, expressing gratitude to heroic Spratly Islands soldiers who donated their life to preserve and protect the fatherland”

 

Mr. Vo Hien Dat, representing the families in Ly Son district, gave speech at the ceremony

On behalf of the families in Ly Son District, Mr. Vo Hien Dat said: “In ancient times, our ancestors obeyed the court’s order to go for a mission in the Paracel Islands and Spratly Islands and many people never returned. Therefore, to commemorate our ancestors died for the country, families in Ly Son District and along the coast of Quang Ngai Province annually celebrate “Khao Le The” Ceremony of Paracel Islands soldiers, thereby telling children about the merits of their ancestors and then remembering and following them”. At the same time, he also said: “Facing the complicated situation in the East China Sea, the families in Ly Son District are trying to educate children, especially fishermen in the island to unite and promote common consent in catching fishes in the East China Sea, not make concessions before the unjust actions of China encroaching on the Vietnam’s sea and islands sovereignty, to be determined to protect traditional fishing grounds where our ancestors shed much blood to set the land mark for asserting the sovereignty”.
“Khao Le The” Ceremony of Spratly Islands soldiers was held in the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism. The contents consisted of: “bá trạo hầu thần” singing and dancing, “Chánh tế khao lề thế lính” ceremony, ship dropping festivals, holidays and scapegoat. After the ceremony, “Hội Bài chòi” was held.

“Khao Le The” Ceremony of Paracel Islands soldiers in the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism is an activity with important significance at present when the sacred sovereignty of Vietnam is being violated. This ceremony is also to propagandize the the territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty protection policy of the Party and the State of Vietnam to ethnic minorities and international friends, simultaneously, to arouse and enhance the sense of responsibility of officials and people, especially the younger generation for sea and island sovereignty and Vietnam’s territorial integrity preservation and protection.

Besides, “Khao Le The” Ceremony of Paracel Islands soldiers and the relevant rituals in the spiritual life of the fishermen living at the territorial waters and islands in the Common house of Vietnamese ethnic groups contribute an important part to the preservation, conservation and promotion of traditional cultural values of coastal residents; practically contribute to creating a rich and diverse cultural picture of Vietnamese ethnic groups and at the same time, emotionally supporting marine soldiers and fishermen guarding the sea with no sense of danger and the unyielding, indomitable and determined sense to defend the sovereignty of the sea, islands, territorial sanctity of the Fatherland .
