Opening Northern Upland Market at Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism

(LVH) - This morning, April 19, 2013, at Villages of Ethnics I, Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, Northern Upland Market opened. This is one of the prominent activities to celebrate Vietnam ethnic Culture Festival dated April 19 and Vietnamese Family Year in 2013 held in "Villages" with the participation of 8 units with more than 20 kiosks of the northern ethnic compatriots.

Attending the opening ceremony, there were Mr. Trieu Tai Vinh, Member of Party Central Committee, Secretary of Ha Giang people’s committee, Mr. Nguyen Huu Thinh, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, Member of Steering Committee, Head of the Organization Board , Mr. Hoang Duc Hau, Director General of Ethnic Culture Department, Member of Steering Committee, Deputy Head of Organization Board, Mr. Lam Van Khang, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism, Member of the Organization Board, Mr. Nguyen The Chien, Director of Bac Giang Culture, Sports and Tourism Department, Mr. Hoang Van Kien, Director of Ha Giang Culture, Sports and Tourism Department, Mr.Tran Quoc Oanh, Deputy director of Bac Kan Culture, Sports and Tourism Department, Mr. Hoa Huu Van, Deputy Director of Family Department, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Heads of 8 ethnic groups and majority of local people and both domestic and foreign tourists.

 

 Overall picture of Northern highland Market

Upland market are taken from the miniature of Dong Van Market - Ha Giang vividly reappearing traditional market space of Vietnam ethnic groups at the northern highlands –the place of buying and selling, bartering and cultural exchanges and cultural activities with pictures of diverse ethnic culture products.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Hoang Duc Hau, Director General of Ethnic Culture Department, Member of Steering Committee, Deputy Head of Organization Board emphasized: "Upland Market in Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism is market model for exchanging commodities of Northern ethnic minorities. This market model is expected to open every two months in the future. In 3 market days, there shall be specific features of highland market with bartering commodities in music and dances and special ethnic games. All creates national cultural identity and at the same time it is the original point and the moral strength of Vietnamese nation in the development process. "
8 northern ethnic groups participating in upland markets consist of Hmong, Dao (Ha Giang) Tay (Bac Kan), Nung (Lang Son), Muong (Hoa Binh), Thai (Son La), San Chay, San Diu (Bac Giang). Visitors coming to highland markets shall find the products and specialties such as “Thang co”, wild honey, Ha Giang “men men”, Lang Son roast pig, corn wine, etc. In addition, there are also the favorite familiar products such as Kien Thanh wine, Luc Ngan noodle, Bac Giang rice pancakes.

At the end of the opening ceremony, Thai ethnic group from Thuan Chau district, Son La province, Representative of craftsmen selling goods at the market shared, "I hope the market shall be held regularly so that the traditional handicrafts, the ethnic specialties may reach to the majority of Vietnamese people. At market, compatriots will introduce their traditional culture characteristics and cultural exchanges among ethnic groups ".

 

 Special cultural activities in upland markets

The scenes outside market is more impressive: images of drunken husband sitting on horseback who is taken to home by his wife, steaming “thang co” pot of Hmong ethnic group, Nung ethnic group’s roast pig, etc. In the surrounding landscape, there are the folk singers and dancers being absorbed in songs and dances, tourists playing games with ethnic peoples, for example, “con” throwing, string swinging, “danh yen” game, etc.

Market is extended by April 21, this is a precious opportunity for visitors who have never come to highland areas to experience interesting activities at the market that are typical for Northern ethnic culture characteristics in the North, helping them more understand the lives of ethnic minorities and contributing to preserving the cream of Vietnamese cultural identity.
